discipleship

and Jesus came and said to them,
‘all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’

-matthew 28:18-20 esv

make disciples.

the call has never been to increase church size through ministry programs. the call is to shepherd men and women, to train them up into maturity in Christ as growing disciples of Jesus.

it's an enormous task.

it isn't just a challenge to pastors or church leaders. everyone has the capability to grow in Christ, and as a result teach others how to grow in Christ. it takes the whole global church to fulfill the great commission, not simply the efforts of a few. men and women...young and old...pastors and lay people...everyone has the invitation to participate in the training of believers to follow Jesus more intimately and missionally.

discipleship = leading from your life.

life-on-life discipleship isn't 'adding one more thing' to your busy schedule. it means inviting someone to experience what it looks like to follow Christ in all honesty and vulnerability. it means showing someone what following Jesus looks like from God's word and from the example of your life.

it's not about being perfect.

if it were, then Jesus would be the only disciple-maker. if perfection were required, then Jesus wouldn't have called His disciples to make disciples. the call is to allow God to use you right where you are, by the leading of His Spirit, to teach others the true joy that comes from counting the cost of allowing Christ into the world today.

through life-on-life discipleship, we tell and retell the story of God.

if you want to know more about what it looks like to disciple, come join us at matthias' lot church on saturday, november 7th, at 9am. together, we'll explore the model we have in Christ for what life looks like together.
